Importing a used Japanese car into the United Kingdom
Check out the forums on importing Japanese used cars to UK as well to find more information
There is a lot of confusing red tape around, but to import a Japanese used car all you you have to do is:
- Buy car from a dealer and arrange shipping
- When it arrives pay import tax and duty (about 10%)
- Arrange a Single Vehicle Approval (Type approval) test so that it conforms to UK safety standards
- Get an MOT
- Register and license the car with DVLA
Your dealer may arrange the tests etc or you may have to sort them yourself in which case you can get all the forms and details from DVLA.
